Seniors and students have to make sacrifices but not Big Oil?

Someone explain to me the logic of Republicans targeting all sorts of government programs like Medicare, Social Security, Defense spending, financial aid, and everything else under the sun, but they won't even touch subsidies to oil companies? Correct me if I'm wrong, but this country is in a recession, the deficit is out of control, everyone from seniors to students are making sacrifices but the oil companies are making record profits so we need to keep giving them freebies?
